US Open 2011 Day 2 Open Thread

Yesterday, Petra Kvitova was the first Wimbledon champion to lose in the first round of the US Open in the Open Era. Or so I thought I heard one of the commentators say. If it was Chris Evert, then you might want to fact check this stat for the things that fall from her lips are often so wrong as to be flatout ludicrous. But the young Czech hasn't won but a few matches since taking the crown jewel back in July and it seems she's still on the lawns of Wimbledon dealing with such an overwhelming accomplishment. I don't expect her to rebound till the indoor season begins.

16-year-old American Madison Keys won her first Slam match, taking out veteran wild card Jill Craybas in straight sets. The youngster has weapons. Christina McHale also rallied to victory, while Bethanie Mattek-Sands continues to disappoint, barely winning games in her straight-set loss. And what on earth has happened to Melanie Oudin? I didn't expect her to become a world beater after her run to the quarterfinals two years ago, but she's now eating bagels baked by journeywomen with no weapons.

Today, I don't foresee any big upsets, but with late arrivals to New York and interrupted rituals due to Irene, who knows? Look out for Igor Andreev.

Last grand Slam of the year in Tennis calender will begin on 29th August 2011 in Flashin meadows new York, this is the last of the 4 major events in the tennis season and this is one of the most anticipated and glamoured event of the year. Novak Djokovic has taken over the Tennsi No.1 ranking and he will be eager to go out there and win this event While there will be other contenders likes of Roger Federer, Murray and Rafael Nadal.

In the United States, USOpen.org and ESPN3.com will be broadcasting the event live online and you can tune in those sites to get the live aciton fo the match. We will also have some other line streaming links which will be available shortly before the start of the every match in the event.

Novak Djokovic got injured just before the start of the US open, which makes the US Open Championship wide open and any body of the top seeds could go out there and win it. ALthough Rafael Nadal dont enjoy playing on hard courts he will be looking to win this title which he has yet to win and will make him a complete champion.

Biography:

José Paolo Guerrero Gonzales (born 1 January 1984 in Lima) is a Peruvian professional footballer who currently plays as a striker for Hamburger SV and Peru. He started playing football in the lower categories of Peruvian club Alianza Lima, where he scored more than 200 goals. In 2002, Guerrero signed a contract with Bavarian giants Bayern Munich. During 2003–04, Guerrero played in the Regionalliga Süd. He played 23 games and scored 21 goals. During the 2004–05 season, he joined fellow countryman, Claudio Pizarro, on the Bayern first team. In June 2006, it was announced that Guerrero had transferred to Hamburger SV, and signed a contract with the club through 2010.[1] He scored the winner against his former club Bayern Munich, which he did not celebrate because of his past with the club and the care he still feels for it. The result meant that Bayern had no chance of playing in the Champions League in the 2007–08 season.

Jelena Dokic Biography:

She is only 19, and yet in her short career she has escaped the war in Yugoslavia, running from her Croatian home at the age of 6, and from her Serbian home at the age of 11. She adopted Australian nationality and set up home in Sydney with her family only to relinquish her new citizenship in high dudgeon to revert to her Yugoslavian passport. After moving to the United States of America and back to Belgrade she now lives at Monaco.

In the middle of all this media mayhem, Jelena's credentials as a tennis player tend to be overlooked. She was the top-ranked junior in the world at the age of 15 and then, a year later, she announced herself to the public by beating world no 1 Martina Hingis at Wimbledon in the opening round. Jelena had come through the qualifying competition, and was ranked 129 at that time. By the end of her run - she was stopped at the quarterfinals - she had climbed to 37, and she never looked back.

Jelena's final breakthrough took place at Rome in 2001. There she won her first title at one of the big-money, top-tier events, and, having developed the winning habit, she has been doing it on a regualar basis ever since. After that, she won the Toyota Princess Cup at Japan, the Kremlin Cup at Moscow, the Sarasota Open at Florida and after she had won Birmingham she finally won a tournament on every possible surface!
On october, 8, 2001 she entered the Top 10 for the first time in her career, and settled down there, and if she announces the Top 10 as her home, it's meant more literally than with any other player! She has gradually tought herself to try to enjoy life away from the courts, and she likes the same pastimes as any 19-year-old. She loves to shop, she loves movies, music and most of all she loves her boyfriend: Brazilian Formular 1 star Enrique Bernoldi.
